Crystals are the link between every major decision in Mine a Mountain. You mine them on the mountain, carry them to base, sell them for cash, or keep selected pieces for the Luck Plot. Mutations can change a crystal’s role, while Boulders are community-reported sources of rare crystals and Runes. Exact values, weights, spawn locations, and odds remain update-sensitive.

Choose the right Crystal page

The Crystal Index is intentionally “currently documented,” not “complete.” The official description confirms rare crystals but does not provide an entity table. A partial public list should never be presented as the full live game.

Follow a crystal from mountain to decision

Mine a crystal with the current tool prompt, collect it only if the Backpack has enough capacity, and return to base before cold or route risk grows. At base, inspect its displayed name, rarity, weight, sell value, mutation, and Plot contribution. Choose one destination: sell for immediate cash, place for an ongoing luck role, or keep briefly while comparing another candidate.

Do not count a crystal as income until the seller completes the transaction. Do not count it as Plot value until the placement is accepted and the displayed luck state changes. These two confirmation points prevent an attractive visual from becoming an invented statistic.

Decide between selling and placing

Situation
Usually favor
Reason
A cash upgrade removes the current blocker.
Sell
Durable Warmth, Pickaxe, or Backpack progress changes the next route.
The crystal shows a stronger Plot contribution than a current placement.
Place or swap
It may support future rare finds across multiple runs.
The value or Plot effect is unclear.
Inspect first
Selling is final; unsupported multipliers should not decide the choice.

The best choice changes with account stage. Early cash often has high value because it removes basic blockers. Later, a verified strong Plot candidate may support longer-term goals.

Read rarity, weight, and value separately

Rarity is not the same as sale value, and sale value is not the same as Plot value. Weight affects whether the crystal can be carried at all. A heavy item can be valuable but inefficient when it fills the Backpack and forces a risky route. Use the current UI for all three fields.

The Backpack Guide helps decide whether carrying capacity is worth upgrading. The Fast Money Guide compares banked cash rather than theoretical value.

Understand mutations cautiously

Community sources describe five mutations: Frost, Fire, Poison, Thunder, and Radioactive. Four are linked to elemental Bombs, while Radioactive is linked to an administrator event. The sources attach exact sale and Plot multipliers and a mutation chance, but those numbers are not first-party or tested here.

Use the visible mutation label and current item readout. Treat older multipliers as a comparison lead, not a guaranteed result. The Mutations Index records the dated claims and the exact fields that need testing.

Find and handle Boulders

One current community guide says Boulders appear deep inside the mountain, require particular Pickaxes, drop rare crystals, and may drop Runes. It names Mossite, Voltite, Gildrite, Rimeveil, and Nocturnite. These are useful search targets, but their locations, gates, drops, and odds remain community-reported.

When a Boulder appears, first secure a path back. Read the tool requirement, avoid spending the full cold window on an impossible target, and leave Backpack room for the result. The Boulders Guide maps the currently reported Pickaxe and Rune relationships.

Work around the hourly mountain

The official description says a new mountain appears every hour. Public guides report refreshed terrain and spawns. That makes exact crystal coordinates temporary. Record altitude, nearby landmarks, visible material, and time in the current mountain instead of promising a permanent position.

Bank important crystals before a reset while item persistence remains unverified. After the new mountain appears, scout again. The Hourly Reset Guide separates official timing language from behavior that still needs observation.

Build a trustworthy Crystal record

For a newly found crystal, capture the displayed name, rarity, weight, sell preview, mutation label, source area, current mountain time, Plot contribution, and check date. Leave a field blank when the UI does not show it. A single random result cannot establish spawn odds or a complete drop table.

When two players report different values, check mutation, size, active Runes, paid passes, update version, and whether one result is a sale value while the other is a Plot value. Keep the disagreement visible until the condition is understood.

Avoid common Crystal mistakes

  • Publishing a “complete” list when the official page only confirms rare crystals generally.
  • Copying exact values or weights without a current item screen.
  • Selling the only useful Plot candidate before checking its contribution.
  • Keeping every low-value item until Backpack capacity ruins the return.
  • Assuming a mutation is guaranteed by a Bomb.
  • Calling one Boulder drop an odds table.
  • Following scripts that promise rare crystals despite the official ban warning.
